In tension / Intention : Interactive sculptural tapestry
‘In tension/Intention’ is an interactive installation created out of a 30’x7’sewn tapestry I made out of upcycled fabric. The tapestry is draped over a pre-fabricated 10’x10’x7’ tent I reinforced by creating a skeleton out of PVC. The sewn tapestry is inspired by the view of Full Moon set at Sunrise over the Blue Ridge Mountains, which is where I have called home since 2019. The name of the piece is a play on words: One, because this installation invites you to be inside a tent (in-tent) but specifically as an intentional safe space to regulate your nervous system during a time of tension.
This is the first large scale sewn piece I have created since 2017, which is when I started experiencing houselessness, so I wanted to create a place that feels safe & intentional. Showcased through October as part of an all trans artist exhibit, ‘Expansive’, in which people got to sit inside & ground.
